El Camino a Aztlan... Path to Aztlan
Today is the day of Kajib’ E’ in the Mayan Calendar. I've been learning more about the energies of each day from my Amigas that walk this path with me, their elders and also from Santos Romero and Diana Paez beautiful substacks and reflections on these energies.
I have to say that following the last Trecena of Ajmaq and doing daily prayers, and offerings and intentionally being committed to doing the work around forgiveness, really opened up so much more clarity for me and prepared me to be open for the energies of this current Trecena of Toj.
As I have been learning, Toj’s energy asks us to cultivate our Gifts we have been given by Spirit and Inherited from our Ancestors, and how we are offering those gifts back to the collective.
I have had so much inspiration and things to reflect on, and honestly today's energies have been so helpful and confirming about my path.
I think I went into today with so many questions about my path and as I lit my candle and went into my daily prayer I asked for clarity and signs that I'm on the right path.
I think sometimes I just get very into my head about what to focus on at this time. I feel I have many gifts, a lot of inspiration, and many seeds I have planted, and sometimes I'm not sure what to focus on at this time. All I know is that as an AJ, I always ask that wherever the path leads me that I can stay close to my family.
As the mother of 2 Autistic Young Men, I want to stay as close as I can to them and ensure I'm preparing them for adulthood as they find their own paths.
And time in again, spirit reminds me that they are absolutely a Huge part of my path and that whenever I am spending time with them and showing them things, and observing them, and helping them to see their gifts and helping them cultivate them and celebrate them… that's already a huge offering to this world.
I think sometimes in these spiritual spaces, and as Mothers who are on this path, we find ourselves always questioning and trying to figure out the right balance of how much we are sharing with our communities but also ensuring we are well rested and resourced for the work and journey of raising a family.
Sometimes, I think, I get into my head about my path needing to be all of these exciting things, something big and sexy. 😅 But what if this is it? And what if that is the most beautiful and important offering we can give back to this world? Raising the most beautiful, heart centered, Earth loving humans?
I mean, I know there are other things we want to create as Women, because we are more than mothers. But I'm starting to understand more and more that there will be time for all of it, but if today the Path leads me to spend time with my children and share these beautiful teachings moments with them, and learn from them… ooooff that offering is so enough 🙏
As often as I can, I try to include my boys in my Medicine work . I especially try to instill in them the importance of being good Earth stewards and having a good relationship with the Web of Life including ourselves and our own bodies.
So today the path led us to a Nature Trail for a walk. We frequent this Trail a lot, and the last time we went 2 weeks ago, we were absolutely shocked and disappointed to see how much trash was left everywhere,.especially in the lake and ponds. It was hard to see our animal relatives having to swim and navigate so much filth. So, we committed to returning to the trail and doing some clean up.
My boys did such an incredible job, but it took a minute to get them going. I found myself getting a little frustrated when they were not following my lead. And sometimes as parents we think our job is to hold their hand through everything and have them do things exactly like we do them. But the moment that I was able to take a step back and relax, and trust, and let them tackle the task and build their own relationship with Mother Nature , man things flowed easier, and they really got into it.
Another amazing thing that happened when I let go of my worries about how they were picking up the trash, is that I was able to be open to so much wisdom and guidance that Spirit and my boys were trying to show me.
Especially when I sat with my frustrations and impatience. Because what I found was Resentment. And as I sat with my Resentment, I reminded myself that doing this work is my choice. I want to do this work, I get to do this work. Like, how cool and blessed are we, to have this time to spend together as a family and take care of our Pachamama together.
In that spaciousness that I was able to create, I heard a crystal clear message from Spirit that said, that by us doing this work of cleaning up the trash on this trail, we were clearing the path for others, and also that by doing this work, we were being a light of hope and possibility for our community.
There will always be trash and we are not responsible for doing it all, and we are not doing it all ourselves, but doing our part helps bring things into balance and harmony.
And to end a nearly perfect afternoon, we were given a blessing by a beautiful Blue Heron. We first saw him while we were in the middle of picking up trash. I stopped to say hello and acknowledge their presence and thank them for being a guardian of this piece of land. And at the end of our trail, as we were resting, the Heron flew straight toward us and landed where we were resting. It stayed there until we said good bye and started to head back. Almost like it flew to us to say thank you, hang out with us, and give us their blessing. Then I remembered that Herons are connected to my Ancestors, the Mexicas. The Mexicas believed in Aztlan, which is known as the Land of Herons.
This remembrance and realization, made the whole day that much more Magical for me. Because here I was receiving confirmation from my Ancestors through this Heron, that I am on the right path, and that my Path has led me to finding Aztlan 🥹🥰✨🙏
